Biomass (waste) gasification is a thermochemical process that converts biomass fuels into flammable gases. In this process, water vapor, free oxygen or combined oxygen is thermochemically reacted with carbon in the fuel to form a combustible gas. The biomass (waste) gasification process is complex, and the gasification reaction conditions are also different. However, all gasification reactions basically involve the drying, pyrolysis, oxidation and reduction processes of biomass.
The downdraft fixed bed gasifier is characterized in that the gas and the material move in the same direction, so it is also called a gasification gasifier. The pyrolysis product of the downdraft fixed bed gasifier must pass through the heating oxide layer, so the tar in the volatile matter can be fully decomposed, and the tar content in the gas is much lower than that in the upper suction type fixed bed gasifier. It is suitable for relatively dry bulk materials (water content less than 30%), as well as blends containing a small amount of coarse particles, and is easy and reliable to operate. Due to the low tar content in the gas of the downdraft fixed bed gasifier, it is particularly suitable for small power generation systems.
working principle:
Dry layer
The uppermost layer of the gasification furnace is a drying zone, and the material added from above directly enters the drying zone, where the materials exchange heat with the hot gas products generated in the following three reaction zones, so that the water in the raw materials evaporates, and the temperature of the layer is 200~300°C. The product of the dried layer is a dry material and water vapor. The water vapor exits the gasifier with the heat generated by the three reaction zones below, and the dry material falls into the pyrolysis zone.
 Pyrolysis layer
The biological dry material runs down into the pyrolysis layer while heating the biomass, and a pyrolysis reaction occurs when the biomass is heated. Most of the volatiles in the biomass are separated from the solid by pyrolysis, and are substantially completed at 500-600 ° C, leaving charcoal. The main products of the pyrolysis zone are carbon, hydrogen, water vapor, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, methane, tar and other hydrocarbons.
